The SCOFF Questionnaire
The SCOFF questionnaire is a simple, five-question screening tool designed to identify potential eating disorders. Developed by Morgan et al. in 1999, SCOFF is an acronym for the key elements of the five questions:
- Sick: Do you make yourself sick because you feel uncomfortably full?
- Control: Do you worry you've lost control over how much you eat?
- One stone: Have you recently lost more than one stone (14 lb/6.5 kg) in a 3-month period?
- Fat: Do you believe yourself to be fat when others say you are too thin?
- Food: Would you say food dominates your life?
This is a screening tool, not a diagnostic instrument. A score of 2 or more positive answers suggests a possible eating disorder and indicates that further assessment by a healthcare professional may be needed.
