About the Authors

Our non-profit organization, Mission Madat, works to combat eating disorders. Jasmeh Kaur Dang and Alina Sachdev from Year 10 created Mission Madat as their leadership project.

We want to provide a platform where you can use it to detect whether you have an eating disorder, get some basic advice on how to cope with it, and have the option of being connected with a professional for help.

The SDGs that we are emphasising guarantee healthy lives and advance wellbeing for people of all ages.

Our goal is to ensure that every student has a healthy meal at school and feels good in their own skin. We want the community around us to be aware of eating disorders and feel comfortable talking about it.

About the Book

You Are Not Alone – Mission Madat is a 35-page fictional novella co-authored by Alina Sachdev and Jasmeh Kaur Dang. Framed as a suspenseful romance, it explores the biological, psychological, and social dimensions of eating disorders and advocates for a team-based support approach. Although targeted at readers aged 15 and up, its poignant, issue-driven narrative aims to resonate with anyone interested in mental-health awareness.

Eating disorders are behavioral conditions characterized by severe and persistent disturbance in eating behaviors and associated distressing thoughts and emotions. They can be very serious conditions affecting physical, psychological, and social function.

Eating disorders can do a lot of damage to your health. People with eating disorders often don't get the nutrients their bodies need to stay healthy and work properly. For example, people with eating disorders are at risk of heart or kidney failure leading to death if they are not treated.

Eating disorders can affect people of all ages, racial/ethnic backgrounds, body weights, and genders.

Synopsis

The novella delves into the root causes of eating disorders—biological predispositions, mental-health challenges, and social pressures—and depicts how a caring "mission" team rallies to provide understanding and support. Through tightly woven suspense and interpersonal drama, the authors highlight both the vulnerability and resilience of those struggling with body-image issues.
